Frudes

What is Frudism?
Professional Artist, D. Mariana Robinson was inspired to create Frudes or Fruity Nudes, whilst studying Picasso's "Pitcher with Apples" painting of 1919. The art critics of Picasso's time thought his image a little risque for general viewing. Mariana has further developed this idea, coupled with her whacky sense of humour in the titles, to produce a small colletion of Frude paintings which are a mixture of fruit and nudes thus inventing the word "Frude™" and a new genre of art called Frudism. The intention is for the viewer to see firstly a still life of fruit (or vegetables) and only after studying the image a little while will the nude image switch into view. It really depends on how quickly your brain utilises the information to see both images. Mariana's Frudes are an image within an image and the title of each one adds to this double-entendre. As you can see from the example of "Peachy" below, the grapes are hair, the apple stem is an eyelash, the cherries are a handbag and the handles of the blue vase suggest hands on hips in a haughty manner. The rounded peach should be the most obvious element!
The images below have all been painted in watercolour and are only available as Limited Edition Giclée Prints in a small edition of 250. Frudes are printed onto A3 size watercolour paper using archival inks and mounted to size 24" x 20". Now is the time to own a Frude. There are just 12 paintings in the series and each print comes with an Edition Certificate signed by the artist. Each edition is emboss stamped for authenticity. If you would like to purchase all twelve original paintings - then you'll have to pay off my mortgage!
